The market at the foot of the cathedral

The market at the foot of Cologne Cathedral is the one everybody pictures: red-and-gold stalls packed into the square with the two black spires going straight up behind them. It is also one of the busiest in Germany, which is worth knowing when you plan the time. Your photographer meets you at Café Reichard, directly beside the Dom, and works the stalls, the square and the quieter streets running down towards the river. The cathedral is lit from dusk and the stalls come on at the same time, so the late afternoon does both at once. Earlier in the day the square is calmer if you would rather not be shoulder to shoulder. Both options are built for the season. Rudolph is 30 minutes and 20 photographs, with sparklers and a Christmas hat to play with. Santa is an hour and 50 photographs, and includes a drink afterwards — mulled wine or hot chocolate, your choice. Your edited photographs arrive within 48 hours.
