The Duomo is the third-largest cathedral in the world, and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II opens directly off the same square — marble, glass and mosaic within a minute of each other. Your photographer works the cathedral frontage, the Galleria's mosaic floor and glass dome, and the rooftop terraces above. The piazza is busiest between eleven and four. Come early for the full façade with space around it. The Galleria holds soft, even light at any hour, which makes it reliable when Milan's weather turns grey — as it often does in winter.
