A flying dress session is built around one thing: a gown with a train several metres deep, caught and thrown so it fills the frame. Venice gives it the best backdrop in Europe — pale stone, dark water, and arches that hold the shape of the fabric. Your photographer meets you at Caffè Florian in Piazza San Marco. From there the session works the colonnades of the Doge's Palace, the balustrades along the waterfront and the bridges behind the square, where there is no crowd to work around. This one is designed for a single person in front of the camera. The dress needs room and the frame needs one subject. Early morning is the best of it. The piazza is close to empty before eight, the light comes in low off the lagoon, and you can take your time rather than working between crowds. Your edited photographs arrive within 48 hours.
